Second dementia award for Worcester home

L-R: Ilone Burley, Dawn Hooper, Donna White and Patricia Owen
Staff at a Worcester care home are celebrating after being awarded with the Worcestershire Dementia Standard for the second year running.

Northwick Grange Care Home has been awarded the Worcestershire County Council accreditation which rates care homes on their approach and successes when caring with residents with dementia.

The home, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission to care for up to 25 residents, was praised for developing a range of initiatives which help to stimulate and engage residents who live with dementia-type illnesses.

They include staff’s proactive relationships with families, their approach to mealtimes, nutrition and a programme of social activities. They also have a specially secured garden at the home in Old Northwick Lane which helps residents in the spring and summer months.

Care manager Dawn Hooper said: “Some residents have been diagnosed with dementia so we have introduced a successful programme, led by our dementia champion Donna White, which focuses on every detail to make residents as comfortable and as engaged as possible.

“Everyone here is so proud to have been recognised for the second year running. It shows the authorities are noticing the difference we are trying to make to people’s lives.”

Northwick Grange Care Home is part of the privately-owned Redwood Healthcare Group which is based in Worcestershire.
