Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home James Terry Court, in South Croydon, recently enjoyed a fun-filled day inspired by the seaside. The lounge was transformed with a beach theme, complete with colourful decorations, and everyone tucked into seaside favourites, including fish and chips served in traditional boxes, doughnuts and ice cream cones. Cocktails, popcorn and candyfloss added an extra touch of holiday spirit.
The highlight of the day was a special visit from Romeo the donkey, who quickly won the hearts of residents and staff alike with his gentle nature. Residents enjoyed stroking and feeding him, and many shared happy memories of seaside rides from their younger years.
The benefits of spending time with animals for older people are immense. Research has shown that having something to pet or touch can result in lower blood pressure, normal heart rate and reduced stress. Pets provide emotional stability during stressful situations, helping to reduce anxiety and depression.
Home Manager Diane Rumsby said: “It was such a joyful day. Seeing the residents’ faces light up when Romeo arrived was wonderful, and the seaside theme brought back so many fond memories for them. The whole team worked hard to make it special, and the residents had a fantastic time.”
Entertainment continued with a lively Punch and Judy show and a performance by singer Paul, who had everyone clapping and singing along to well-known tunes.
