Tantallon House, in North Berwick, has achieved an impressive rating from the Care Inspectorate following an unannounced visit to the home which lasted for two days.
The Care Inspectorate system assesses each care home according to five categories, namely the planning of care, the setting, staff, leadership and wellbeing of residents.
Tantallon House achieved a ranking of ‘5’ in three categories and ‘4’ in a further two categories, demonstrating the exemplary quality of care provided. As well as spending two days in the home observing the day-to-day life of residents, the inspection team examined electronic data and records, spoke to families and reviewed 50 completed questionnaires from residents, relatives and members of staff.
Comments from relatives, highlighted by the inspection team, included: "Given mum's needs, it's difficult to imagine a better place for her to be right now" and "My relative's wellbeing is as important to the care home as it is to me" and "My sister is very happy and I am amazed how well she has taken to this enormous change of circumstances.”
Crystal Soriano, Home Manager at Tantallon House, commented: “We are delighted to have this independent assessment of our service. Our residents are amazing and we are dedicated to ensuring that each individual can enjoy their later years and take part in the activities and hobbies they enjoy, with appropriate support from a member of staff. Tantallon House is a wonderful community and I’m so proud of my staff for all they do.”
Tantallon House staff are nominated in the Scottish Care Awards 2025.
