New mental health service opens in Sheffield

Priory Group senior managers joined Clive Betts MP and VIP guests to officially open Bowden House, a new specialist mental health service in Sheffield.

Craegmoor, part of the Priory Group of Companies, has invested more than £100,000 in the new residential service for individuals requiring specialist support for their mental health needs, including personality disorder.

Bowden House can provide care for 11 individuals, including 5 beds for admissions that need short-term emergency placements. Some patients may also have a learning disability, but primary needs are associated with mental health.

The service aims to give patients the skills, development and progression required to move towards supported accommodation. Support workers will enable individuals to build confidence and provide guidance on how to build daily living skills, knowledge and access to the community.

Sarah Hughes, Managing Director of Craegmoor, said:  “This service, for individuals who require specialist support for mental health needs, will bring high-quality, much-needed care provision to the Sheffield area. The focus will be on rehabilitation and empowerment to enable and support the person to return to supported or independent living as quickly as possible.”

Clive Betts, the Labour MP for Sheffield South East, commented:  “This is a tremendous facility and I welcome the specialist care provision to Sheffield. The focus on rehabilitation and supporting people with mental health needs to integrate into the community is to be welcomed and I wish Bowden House every success.”
