HOME INSTEAD TEAMS UP WITH THE NATIONAL TRUST

Home Instead Senior Care has announced a new partnership with the National Trust which will see the home care company sharing its expert knowledge on the ageing process with the National Trust’s Volunteer Managers.

Home Instead Senior Care has announced a new partnership with the National Trust which will see the home care company sharing its expert knowledge on the ageing process with the National Trust’s Volunteer Managers.

The partnership was launched at Convestival 18, the Trust’s annual training and development event, which was attended by around 150 staff. This year’s theme was inclusion and diversity.

The National Trust estimates that more than half of its volunteers are over the age of 65.

Home Instead’s People and CAREGiver Experience Team Trainer, Trish John, delivered a workshop ‘Volunteering and the Ageing Process’ which looked at broadening delegates’ understanding of the ageing process.

The interactive session looked at some of the chronic health conditions that may affect some of the Trust’s older volunteers; enabling their managers to support them and allowing the Trust to maintain a fulfilling and mutually beneficial relationship with them.

Speaking after the session at Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, the Trust’s Volunteering & Participation Consultant North, John Sebastianelli, said: “There is a great deal of interest in this subject within the Trust, evidenced by the full attendance at Home Instead’s session.

“One delegate told us it was the best session he had attended over the two day event.

“We all learnt a lot. Managers have gone away with some great tips on how to help their older volunteers and a better understanding of what the ageing process is like.”

During her session, Trish invited the managers to try out Home Instead’s sensitivity kits which contain specially adapted gloves and glasses which mimic conditions such as arthritis and cataracts.

Trish also spoke about dementia and the many ways it can have an impact on a person’s wellbeing.

Commenting on the event, Trish said: “It was lovely to get such a warm welcome at Convestival 18; what a fabulous event.

“The National Trust is very committed to inclusion and diversity and, as a company which champions the needs of older people, we were delighted to see that they take such a keen interest in this demographic.”

Home Instead is delivering its next session to property managers in July.
