BUSINESSES JOIN FORCES TO BUILD GARDEN FOR CARE CENTRE

Residents at The Squirrels Care Centre in Great Warley will be enjoying a newly-refurbished garden this summer, thanks to two local businesses.

Ford Motor Company in Warley gave the time of their European Powertrain Programming and Constraints team as part of a ‘Team Building’ Day, and Wickes of Brentwood donated all the required materials, along with the time of two of their staff.

The residents in the home will be invited to care for parts of the garden, as well as relaxing in it, as part of the centre’s efforts to help its residents feel more at home and involved. The garden now has a number of attractive planters, flowers, and seating areas.

The project was organised by Leanne Cole, Activities Coordinator at The Squirrels, and Mark Ambrose, Senior Program Analyst at Ford, with Wickes Brentwood, to make the improvement to the centre’s garden.

Beverley Brown, Manager at The Squirrels, said: “The residents and team at The Squirrels would like to say a huge thank you to Ford and Wickes for donating their time and resources. The day was a great success, with everyone working together to bring more life to the home.

“Now we have a beautiful garden with raised beds that are suitable for the residents to tend. It is truly lovely that the community has come together in this way.”

Ford’s Mark Ambrose said: “Ford actively encourages its employees to get involved in work that benefits the community. My Father was a resident at The Squirrels, so I know it's an amazing home with caring and considerate staff. It was lovely to revisit with my colleagues and pay a little back for the fantastic work they do.”

Donna Wilders, Store Manager at Wickes Brentwood, said: "When we heard what The Squirrels and the Ford team were planning to do, we were more than happy to supply the building materials and some team member support. The work they do at The Squirrels is amazing, and we are proud to have been part of the project.”

The Squirrels Care Centre, which is based on Warley Road, is part of Larchwood Care and provides dementia and residential care for up to 48 elderly residents.
