CARE PROVIDER ALLIANCE (CPA) RESPONDS TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE CASEY COMMISSION

Professor Vic Rayner OBE, Chair of the CPA

The Care Provider Alliance (CPA) has responded to the launch of the Casey Commission and the publication of its Terms of Reference today.

Professor Vic Rayner OBE, Chair of the CPA, commented: “The CPA welcomes the official launch of the Commission and believes that the work of the Commission cannot come soon enough. There will be a challenging balancing act for Baroness Casey between addressing the serious challenges in the here and now, with high levels of unmet need, inequitable access to social care and support, and increasingly fragile provision, and the need to engage in an ambitious discussion about the future of social care and support.

“It is imperative that the Commission’s work on engagement with people using care and support, the care workforce, social care providers and commissioners and the general public about building social care and support that is fit for the future is not boxed in by either short term inaction or the unfunded implementation of policies such as Fair Pay Agreements.

“Members of the CPA are very keen to work with Baroness Casey and her team to bring clarity to both the reality of the intense pressure facing providers delivering social care and support in 2025 as well as being recognised as a strategic partner with a real role in shaping services that enable people to live the lives they want in a place they call home. There are huge opportunities for social care and support to support the government’s ambitions for the three shifts from hospital to community, illness to prevention, and analogue to digital. We are keen to bring the many examples of excellent care, good practice and innovation in the sector to Baroness Casey’s attention.”
