Residents at HC-One’s Pytchley Court Care Home in Brixworth, Northampton, were treated to a delicious surprise when local children visited the home after baking cakes as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The young people carefully planned the activity from start to finish, choosing their recipes, sourcing ingredients, and working together to bake and decorate a selection of homemade cakes. Their enthusiasm and teamwork were clear throughout, and they took great pride in presenting their finished creations to residents.
The visit created a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational connection, with residents enjoying not only the tasty treats but also the chance to chat with the children about their Duke of Edinburgh Award journey, school life and baking experiences. The afternoon was filled with smiles, conversation and a warm sense of community spirit.
For the Duke of Edinburgh participants, the activity helped them develop valuable life skills, including teamwork, time management, and responsibility, while also giving something back to the local community. Residents praised the young visitors for their kindness and effort, saying how much they enjoyed spending time with them.
