Former Dundee FC star Alex Stuart was given a birthday to remember when he returned to Dens Park as the club’s guest of honour to celebrate his 86th birthday.
Alex, who now lives at Ballumbie Court Care Home in Dundee, enjoyed a very special day at Dundee Football Club on Saturday 8 August, where he was reunited with the club he represented between 1958 and 1969.
Staff from Ballumbie Court helped Alex mark his milestone birthday with an unforgettable visit to the stadium, where he was treated to a tour of Dens Park before enjoying a special hospitality lunch in the Legends Lounge.
The celebrations continued as Alex watched Dundee FC’s first match of the season alongside his family, making it a particularly memorable day for the lifelong football star.
Alex holds a special place in Dundee FC history. During his playing career, he became the only player in the club’s history to win the league before going on to represent Dundee in the European Cup semi-final. He also played in a Scottish Cup final and Scottish League Cup final.
Renowned for his powerful shooting, Alex earned the nickname ‘The Thunderbolt’ and was a prolific goalscorer during his time at the club.
His contribution to Dundee FC was recognised in 2017 when he was inducted into the Dundee FC Hall of Fame, receiving a Golden Era award.
The team at Ballumbie Court were delighted to see Alex return to the club where he made so many memories, surrounded by his family and celebrating his 86th birthday in the place that played such an important role in his life.

For Alex, the special visit provided an opportunity to relive cherished memories from his remarkable football career while creating new ones with his family and the Ballumbie Court team.
