Birmingham residents connect to Canada
Published on 09/06/2014
St. Marthas Care Centre, which is based in Stechford, Birmingham, has recently invested in a Kindle Fire, which has enabled two of its residents to communicate with their loved ones that live in Canada.
Using Skype on the Kindle Fire, Lillian and William Bushell, who are residents at St Marthas, were very excited to be able to see as well as talk to their son, John, and their daughter-in-law, who they haven’t seen in two years.
The Kindle is an important tool to support residents and enables them to keep in contact and link-up with their family members who may live in different parts of the world. Residents may even get to see and talk to grandchildren who they haven’t met before.
Based on Victoria Road in Stechford, Birmingham, St Marthas Care Centre provides care for up to 71 elderly residents, some of whom have dementia.
Ben Barkat, Manager at St Marthas Care Centre, said: “It was fantastic to see the big smiles on Lillian and William’s faces as they spoke to their family. It’s great that we can organise moments like this for our residents, as some do not get to see their relatives, so special moments like this gives them a real boost.”
