Akari resident celebrates centenary
Philips Court care home, which is based in Gateshead and is part of Akari Care, welcomed the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Jack Graham MBE, to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident, Janet Thompson.

Janet, who has lived in Gateshead all her life, was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Councillor Jack Graham and received a card from the Queen.

The home held a special party to mark Janet’s milestone birthday, which was attended by Janet’s daughter Sybil and son-in-law Alan, and included a big 100th birthday cake and a performance by Mike Memphis aka Elvis Presley.

Janet was married to Cecil for 45 years and worked as domestic help for the Jewish community in Gateshead. She always loved a good night out and especially enjoyed a brandy with her husband.

The party also celebrated five other residents’ birthdays; Mavis Huey (75), Molly Huscroft (79), Patrisha Farbridge (67), Norene Earl (87) and Brian Bradley (82).

Karleen Taylor-Williams, Manager at Philips Court, said: “Everyone really enjoyed the party for Janet’s birthday and it was fantastic to see her surrounded by her family and friends. Janet is a much loved-resident, so it was lovely that everyone at the home, including the other residents celebrating their birthdays, were able to share her day. I’d like to say a big thank you to Councillor Jack Graham for attending the party and making it that extra-bit more special.”
