Macclesfield care home back up to scratch

Canterbury Care’s Rowans Care Centre has been praised following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The home, which is based on Merriden Road and provides nursing care for up to 36 elderly residents, responded quickly to resolve the issues a previous CQC report had highlighted, and, following a re-inspection, is now meeting the standards assessed by the regulator.

The report included comments from the inspector who said: “We saw examples of good practice, particularly in the way staff interacted with the people living in the home.

“We observed staff members throughout the day as they went about their work and saw they were interacting well with people in order to ensure that they received the care and support they needed.”

Residents were also positive about the care that they receive. Some of the comments gathered by the CQC included: “The girls are very good, they always treat us with respect and dignity” and “the staff are good, I have no concerns.”

A resident’s relative added that the “staff are wonderful treasures, I have no complaints and they look after my relative really well.”

Donna Francis, Manager at Rowans Care Centre, said: “We always welcome constructive feedback about the care that is provided at Rowans, such as that which was in our previous CQC report, as a robust inspection is vital to ensure that high standards of care are maintained across the sector.

“We were very quick to respond to the CQC’s findings and provided a detailed action plan to rectify the issues raised, which is now in place.

“Hearing the excellent reviews and comments from our residents and their relatives in the report was very rewarding and is testament to the dedication and hard work of the members of staff at Rowans Care Centre.”
