FESTIVE SEASON STARTS IN STYLE AT GLOUCESTER HOME

FESTIVE SEASON STARTS IN STYLE AT GLOUCESTER HOME
A series of special Christmas events has kicked off at a Gloucester care home with local shop keepers and businesses taking part in a festive bazaar.

Residents and their families at the Knoll Care Home in Tuffley were able to browse handmade local crafts, make-up, clothes and jewellery in the first of a programme of events organised by the home’s staff.

Traders were invited into the home to showcase their goods at the busy bazaar which was opened by special guest, the Reverend Janet Faull from nearby St Barnabas Church.

The bazaar, which saw over 50 visitors, was the work of activities coordinator Debbie Davis, with support from care manager Gener Tayhopon. It signalled the start of the Christmas programme which will also include a carol service and a festive party.

Debbie said: “It’s definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at The Knoll. The bazaar was a huge success, both for the traders who got to showcase and sell some excellent, local goods but also for our residents who had the chance to buy some superb presents for friends and family from the comfort of the home.

“The shopping event raised £500.00 with all proceeds going to the Residents Comfort Funds which will be used for future activities and trips out for the residents.”

As part of their Christmas activities the care home has also linked up with youth organisation, Young Gloucestershire, which is sending volunteers twice a week throughout December to spend time with the residents – shared activities include making Christmas cards and decorations.

The Knoll, which is part of the privately-owned Redwood Healthcare Group, houses 34 older people who need personal care and is set within 15 acres of grounds with views over Gloucester and the Forest of Dean. It has recently received a compliant inspection rating from both the Care Quality Commission and Gloucester Quality Assurance Team.
