Duchess of Cornwall sees Meals on Wheels and Luncheon Clubs in action
The Duchess of Cornwall has paid a visit to a luncheon club to meet with service users and spread some festive cheer ahead of Christmas day.

Hosted by the National Association of Care Catering (NACC), the duchess joined over 60 attendees at the luncheon club at the Jubilee Centre, St Albans, as they enjoyed their Christmas party. She spoke with the service users about what the luncheon club means to them and about the impact it has on their quality of life. She was also introduced to the NACC National Chair, Neel Radia.

The royal visit was part of the duchess’ work to raise awareness of social isolation and loneliness in the community and helped to highlight the difference that luncheon clubs and meals on wheels can make to older people living independently in their own homes.

A luncheon club is a lifeline for many, giving people the opportunity to regularly socialise outside of their homes in a warm environment and benefit from a nutritious meal, as well as advice on safety and wellbeing.

The duchess also witnessed the meals on wheels provision of Hertfordshire Community Meals, the social enterprise that runs the luncheon club at the Jubilee Centre.

Neel Radia, National Chair of the NACC, commented: “We are thrilled and honoured that Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall has given her valuable support and time to this vital cause.

“The royal visit was a wonderful tonic for the service users in St Albans. They were thrilled to be joined by the extra-special guest and the atmosphere was electric – it was a joy to be part of the incredible event.”
