Brightwork tackles skills gap in care sector

Brightwork, the Scottish recruitment specialist, is taking action to address the skills shortages in Scotland's care home sector by introducing a practical training initiative.

Sean Magee, Senior Consultant of the Health and Social Care division at Brightwork has graduated from the Train the Trainer course, which will allow the company to train the healthcare workers it sends to clients.

Train the Trainer courses are approved schemes designed to make trainers more confident and effective at developing core competences within progressive organisations.

Sean felt the initiative was particularly important since the lack of skilled candidates seriously affects care enterprises across the country, with worrying implications for thousands of vulnerable people. He said: “The care sector in Scotland provides an invaluable service to some of the most vulnerable groups in our society, often in very difficult circumstances, but finding the right employees is becoming increasingly problematic.”

As an approved trainer, Sean is now qualified to bring Brightwork training in-house. This means the company knows exactly what is being covered in training and can quickly react to any legislative or client-instigated changes.

Initially, Brightwork will only be training its own workers, the candidates which it supplies to clients across the country. However, it intends to offer a training service to its client base in the future.
